Now a days it has become a fashion for many arm chair critics to criticise any good attempt made in any profession. Coming to Tollywood many lament that film makers, stars, directors, producers, writers come with routine mass masala entertainers and they can not dare to be different or think out of the box to come with films like other industries like Kollywood, Mollywood or Bollywood. They cite the examples of stars Amir Khan, Salman Khan,Sharukh Khan, Mohan Lal, Mammootty,Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan for daring to be different and directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Maniratnam,Shankar, Murugadoss for their creativity.
Watching those films in those languages, they sing praises and forget all the minute differences and many flaws in the name of abeyance and give them 4 rating. But when Nagarjuna, Balakrishna, Chiranjeevi, Mahesh Babu, Naga Chaitanya, Prabhas,Ram Charan and directors Rajamouli and others come with similar kind of films, they exaggerate the minute differences and blast them and rip them apart giving only around 3 rating. Only when national media review the film in impartial manner and give more ratings they try to introspect. The same thing happened in case of Rajamouli’s Baahubali.
Now many say in ‘Gautami Putra Satakarni’ facts were twisted and it was not a historical entertainer. This is not the first time any historical or mythological film faced criticism. When Nagarjuna and Raghavendra Rao made ‘Annamayya, Sri Ramadasu, Shridi Sai’, they faced criticism. Many criticised Nagarjuna’s mannerisms and Raghavendra Rao for including more romantic songs. Even in the early days critics blasted NTR, ANR, Krishna for their attempts.
But what they are conveniently forgetting is no one can film historical events or mythological events as it is on celluloid. If they do so, the films will turn out to be utter flops. That was the reason why film makers show Anarakali getting buried and gain sympathy of the people. No one show the history that Akbar later saves Anarakali from the grave yard and shift him to far away place. If they show this real fact, the essence of the love story will be lost.
No one knows that Srikrishna Devaraya is short and have scars, marks on his face. If they show him in such manner on screen, people will not see. Film makers showed Krishna Deva Raya in royal attire with Legend NTR immortalising the role. Chatrapati Shivaji is short in reality but coming to reel life, he would be shown with minimum height.
Alluri Seetaramaraju will be shown as a macho hero holding discussions with Rutherford. But in real history, Alluri Seetaramaraju never held discussions and he is thin like a skeleton. Film makers attempting to showcase history on screen is a great attempt and critics instead of blasting them should encourage them and inspire them to come with more such films.
