Movie: Kartikeya’s 90 ML
Writer-Director: Sekhar Reddy Yerra
Young hero Karthikeya Gummakonda is all set to entertain the audience with his upcoming flick titled 90ML. The film revolves around a rare disease which has generated curiosity among the audience after watching the trailer. The promotional material is decent, and the censor issues have only made the audience more excited to check out the movie. Sekhar Reddy Yerra is wielding his megaphone for the film while Ashok Reddy Gummakonda is bankrolling the venture. Let’s check out the review and see whether 90 ML has enough Kick to mesmerize the audience or not.
Kartikeya is born with a rare medical disorder where he has to consume 90 ML of alcohol thrice a day to survive. Things get further complicated when he falls in love with Suvasana (Neha Solanki) who comes from a conservative family (Rao Ramesh) who hates those who drink. The rest of the story is how Kartikeya wins his ladylove. There is also another villain track with Ravi Kishen and Ajay trying to take revenge from the hero which all culminates into a dramatic climax.
Kartikeya has done a good job. He is much more natural now in terms of performance than he was in RX 100 or Hippi. He looks good and his dance moves are amazing. Though he still needs to improve his comic timing and emotional acting. Neha Solanki is just about okay with nothing much to rave about except for some cute looks. Rao Ramesh, Pragathi, Roll Rida, Baahubali Prabhakar are routine. Comedian Raghu Karumanche has entertained with his satirical comedy in the second half. Ravi Kishen is thoroughly irritating in a very weird nonsense character.
The fights designed by Venkat are good and will be liked by masses. Prem Rakshit and Jani master have done a superb job as choreographers. Music by Anup Rubens is good and BGM also not bad. Some dialogues are well-written. The editor has done a terrible job as the movie can be trimmed by at least 30 minutes. Other technical departments are decent according to the production values.
The first half of the film is average but breezy with some good romance, songs, and decent comedy. The film starts off interestingly but goes into the predictable mode soon. The second half is where the film goes completely haywire. The director has picked up an interesting subject but goes clueless about how to narrate the story in the second half. There is a major flaw in the screenplay that there is no reason why the hero doesn’t reveal his medical condition to the heroine or her family. If he had revealed it to them, the film would have ended there itself and spared the audience. Director Sekhar Reddy Yerra drags the film on endlessly in the second half with idiotic scenes and no proper narration. The Ravi Kishen episode in the second half is a complete drag and serves no purpose except for some silly humor. The climax is OTT and completely laughable. Kartikeya’s character graph also goes down in the second half. 90 ML could have been a decent mass entertainer if proper care was taken in the second half. It is sad to see Kartikeya’s efforts going waste in a mundane film. The film has taken a good opening but its survival at the box office is difficult after the initial hype dies down.
