Rating : 3/5

Behind the screens
When Prabhu Deva emerged as dancing sensation, many expected him to star in full length dance entertainers which are new to Indian movie lovers. However it took such long time for Prabhu to fulfill the dreams of many of his fans. In between he became star director and put aside his choreographing skills. This time however when he announced ABCD with tagline Any Body Can Dance, it caught the imagination of many. Promos of Muqala Muqabla song raised the expectations. Let us see what impact it made.
Jahangir Dance Academy head Jahangir (Kay Kay Menon) throws out his partner Vishnu(Prabhu Deva) from the dance institute after Vishnu did not agree his methods of influencing judges in competetions to stay at the top. To add salt to injury he was replaced with an international choreographer.
Vishnu decides to leave Mumbai, but was forced to stay by his friend Gopi(Ganesh Acharya). During that time he meets gangs at Mumbai slums who fight it out with their dances during Ganesh immersion and some aspiring dancers like De (Dharmesh Yelande), Rockey(Salman Yusuff Khan),Rhea(Lauren Gottlieb). Vishnu feel that they are god send gift to him and will go on a mission to change them into great dancers and win National Dancing competetion. Whether Vishnu be able to successful in his mission and what hurdles he faced in doing so should be enjoyed in 3D.
Director Remo Fernandez story is too predictable and there is nothing new in it. But since Indian movie lovers are new to full length dance films, it will definitely appeal to them. Those who happened to watch Hollywood dance films right from Fast Forward in 1980s wich inspired many dance based films in India like Disco Dancer etc will find nothing new in it. Hollywood buffs who were spellbound with amazing dancing styles in Step Up series, will find nothing special in it.
However One should commend the attempt as it bought freshness and new experience on silver screen . However the script is too melodramatic and performances of most of the stars have nothing to rave about. Highlight in the film are spellbounding dances which are well choreographed. Viewers are treated to different dancing styles like The solo, fee style and of course the group dance.Lauren Gattlieb winner of Hollywood reality show ‘Anybody can dance’ amazed all. Lack of strong storyline, conviction in performances of characters and slow pace are the main draw backs.
Choreography is topclass while most of Sachin Jigar’s tunes reminds Hollywood dance beats.Ediing is just ordinary. 3D effects are too less to enjoy.Production values are decent.
Dances of ABCD will surely amaze Tollywood movie lovers and those who wish to see Hollywood style dances in Indian films. Nothing new for Hollywood buffs.
