‘2.0’ touted as the most expensive Indian film has failed in China as well. After a decent start, it couldn’t pick up any momentum and collected only $3 million in its opening weekend. Shankar and Lyca productions might have hoped that China’s collections would make up for the losses that 2.0 generated in India. They were hopeful it might do a ‘Dangal’ at the Chinese box office. But alas it couldn’t.
2.0 was released in more than 48,000 screens but the collections were dismal with only 17.7 crores (around $3 Million) gross in the opening weekend. The trade feels that 2.0 is turning out to be a huge dud in China like Rajamouli’s Baahubali.
Small budget films like Secret Superstar, Andhadhun have done wonders in China which were content-driven and not just visual spectacles.
