Mumbai: South Indian and especially Tollywood writers and directors are in huge demand in Bollywood these days. The phenomenal success of Baahubali paved the way for our makers and this year Arjun Reddy’s remake directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga Kabir Singh took the country by storm. Decades ago, K Raghavendra Rao, Dasari Narayan Rao directed many movies in Bollywood and many of them were hits but still, they were not as respected as Yash Chopra or Manmohan Desai.
But now the scenario has changed, most of the top star films in Bollywood are failing due to poor content and direction. PAN-Indian Public is loving south cinema. It all started with Prabhu Deva giving a new life to Salman’s sagging career with the Pokiri remake Wanted in 2009. Then AR Murugadoss’ Ghajini gave stardom to Aamir Khan who was only doing content-based movies. And now with Baahubali and Kabir Singh, the demand for South directors and writers is at an all-time high. Shah Rukh Khan’s next film is going to be directed by the young talented Atlee and SRK has reportedly offered him a whopping 30 crores for the project. Gowtam Tinnanuri is going to make his Bollywood debut with the remake of Jersey with Shahid Kapoor. Sandeep Reddy Vanga has already signed his next after Kabir Singh.
The same is not the case with South Indian actors. Except for Prabhas none of the South Indian actors have been given a warm welcome in Bollywood including thespians like Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi. Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu, Vijay, Ajith have good recognition in the North because of their dubbed movies on YT but a good theatrical run is something they will not get due to Bollywood mafia.
