Today is top music director Chakravarthi’s vardhanthi. Born as Kommineni Apparao on 8th September and Poonekallu, Andhrapradesh, he went on to become ace music director. He scored music for 960 movies, in 1989 a total 95 films were released in Telugu cinema, in that, the music for 66 of those films were composed by Chakravarthi. He has a son Sri Kommineni who is also a music director and a playback singer.Chakravarthi learned classical vocal from Mahavadi Venkatappaiah. He formed a music troupe called Vinod Orchestra in Guntur and organised light music concerts. Those days, Mangapati of HMV identified his talent and invited him to Madras. HMV released two private records, which includes "Kanna Nenoka Kala".His first film in Telugu ‘Mooga Prema’ released in 1971 before this film he composed background music for a Hindi movie, in that movie titles his name was misspelled as Chakravarthi instead of Apparao then he continued as Chakravarthi. ‘Mooga Prema’ film was not a good hit at box-office, Sarada (1973) gave him a good hit but after this film also he is not well recognised.In 1977, Yamagola was released and this is the great turning point of his career. He even joined as an assistant director for a Viswanati production in C.S. Rao. As part of his job, his frequent visits to music legend K.V. Mahadevan’s house rekindled his interest in music. He wrote lyrics for seven songs for Mahadevan, of which "Jeevitham Entho Thiyyandi" from "Malli Pelli" was considered the best.Soon the D-day for Chakravarthy to become a music director came, from out of the blue in 1969, when his friend K. Chaterjee offered him a chance to compose music for "Mooga Prema," a remake of K. Balachander’s "Tamarai Nenjam". It was Chaterjee who had given him the screen name, Chakravarthy, little knowing that his friend would soon ride the Telugu film music scene like an emperor. The film was release two years later, followed by big musical hits like "Sarada", "Idha Lokam", "Mallepoovu", "Balipeetham", "Vetagadu", "Yamagola", "Premabhishekam", "Jebu Donga" and "Pasivadi Pranam" to name a few.He was a dubbing artiste and lent his voice for 600 movies. He also penned lyrics for a few songs. He was also a singer and acted in the films include – "Gopala Rao Gari Ammayi", "Pakkinti Ammayi", "Theneteega", "Gootilo Ramachiluka", "Lahiri, lahiri, Lahiri". His role as the patriarch of a joint family in the mega serial, "Kalisundam Raa" won much appreciation.There were many other records too in his chequered career, which came to an abrupt end with his sudden demise on February 3, after a brief illness. He was 65.
