Charan debut film in Copyright problem

Ram Charan Tej debut film in Hindi, the remake of Amitabh ‘Zanjeer’ is in the news again. The duo writer Salim-Javed of the original script, are not happy with the remake of the movie. Javed Akthar, recently in Patna he was speaking to the media told that ‘Salim called over the phone and told me that he is not happy with the makers of “Zanjeer”, since nobody came to ask any permission from us’. He says even if we read the current copyright laws, they say that it is the creator’s moral right over his or her creation to maintain its sanctity and originality. This right is not transferable or cannot be stolen either, they have to take permission from us before they do any changes to the original script, he cites example that “if I buy a Painting of MF Hussain, paying by Rs 2crore, I can hang it on my wall, but that does not gives me right to change it, for instance it’s a painting of a person , just because I purchased it, I cannot make a mustache on that person painting, It’s a crime, so the same way even the makers need to take our permission, he even says that I cannot add one small paragraph to Tagore’s or ‘Premchand’s’ poetry, it will be a crime”. However he remains hopeful about the amendments to the country’s copyright laws in general, which will take another six months to materialize. The Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2010, aimed at providing independent rights to the creators of literary and musical works in cinematographic films, entitles them to pay royalty which was denied to them so far. According to Javed, he feels this Bill will bring a huge relief for the writers, who have been struggling to sustain their passion. The duos, who were once famous for the lines they spoke, we hope to see how far this grunt of Salim-Javed takes Ram Charan to another level.
