Behind the Screens:
King Nagarjuna and Natural Star Nani have joined hands for a Multistarer film like Devadas. Both the heroes have pinned high hopes on this film as their last films – Officer and Krishnarjuna Yuddham have ended up as big disasters at the box office. Let us see how the audience receives the movie releasing Today.
Deva (Nagarjuna) is an international don who comes to Hyderabad in search of a gang which killed his God Figure Dada (Sarath Kumar) and then, police are after him. In the process of escaping from them Dasu gets injured and he goes to a doctor Dasu (Nani) who saves him. Friendship blooms between them. What happens next in their lives? Will Deva Change Dasu? or Will Dasu change Deva? forms the rest of the story.
Nagarjuna and Nani, as always, shouldered the responsibility of the film. Nagarjuna’s Look in the film is good and enthralled the audience with his comedy timing. The Bromance between Nani and Nagarjuna worked big time. Unlike her previous two films, Rashmika gets a role without substance. Akanksha Singh looked superb but gets an even poor role. There are many senior actors in the film Rao Ramesh, Satya, Naresh, Murali Sharma, and others but they have very little done.
The first thing about the director is that the movie is indeed a Freemake of Hollywood film, Analyze This except for some changes to suit our nativity. But then, the movie has a story which is very routine and runs on flat narration. Senior Music Director Manisharma provided good tunes for a couple of songs. Better songs would have done wonders to the film. The background score is good. Camera work by Shamdat Sainudeen is good. The editing by Prawin Pudi is disappointing at places. The Production Values of Vyjayanthi Movies are top-notch.
The basic idea of Devadas to cash the Bromance between two stars by making use of the comedy. But then, the director seems to have missed the track while dealing the story. There is no substance in the first half as forced scenes and unnecessary mafia setup are highlighted. But there are some entertaining scenes here and there. The film starts its main story only before the last ten minutes at the interval point. The second half goes wayward completely with many sub-plots. But the movie gets back on track towards the Pre-Climax and Climax with some good comedy. All in all, Devadas is an average attempt with comedy working out here and there.
