Enrollment Begins for India’s First Corona Vaccine

The Clinical Trials of COVAXIN, India’s first indigenous Coronavirus Vaccine, started today across 12 hospitals in the country. NIMS in Hyderabad, KGH in Vishakapatnam are among the 60 hospitals. Enrollment of 375 people for Phase 1 will start today, and July 13th is the last date of enrollment for the first trial.

Seven hundred fifty people will be enrolled in the Second Phase. The unofficial target for finishing the trials and roll out of the vaccine is August 15th. While experts are doubtful about the date, it will be the first vaccine for the contagious virus if it really happens. Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has manufactured this vaccine, which has demonstrated safety and immune response in preclinical studies.
