Which factor decides the fate of a film? Hit or Flop

Is this film hit or flop? Which will decide it? Is it based on the collections or comparing to profits gained by distributors?. Day by day producers are selling the Theatrical Rights of the films on par with the career-best earners of Heroes. Due to this, distributors are earning huge losses although the film made decent collections.

If we take NTR’s recently released film ‘Jai Lava Kusa’ as an example, we can witness the same. The film has gathered good response from all corners and it has collected nearly Rs. 130 crore gross worldwide and Rs. 75 crore shares. Evaluate to this, the film can be decided as a hit.

But the film was sold out for Rs. 86 crore but up to now, the film has collected only Rs.75 crore share. So there is a deficit of close to Rs. 11 crore. As per these calculations ‘Jai Lava Kusa’ ended up as just an average grosser even though it’s NTR’s second biggest earner.

Not only ‘Jai Lava Kusa’ if we observe the collections and pre-release business of recently released films, 70 percent of good films are turning as average grosser but turning as loss ventures for buyers. So Buyers need to be very careful while acquiring the distribution rights to avoid putting their lives at risk.
