Movie: Anjali CBI

Rating: 2.5/5

Director: Ajay Gnanamuthu

Behind the Scenes:

Tamil Lady Superstar Nayanthara is trying to explore a wide variety of Subjects. One such film is a Psycho Thriller, Imaikkaa Nodigal which has been dubbed in Telugu as Anjali CBI. The movie released today alongside NTR Mahanayakudu. Let us see how Anjali CBI is received by the audience:

Rudra (Anurag Kashyap) is a Street Smart Psycho Serial Killer who goes on kidnapping children from the High Profile Families. The case is handed over to CBI and Finally, Brilliant and Sincere CBI Officer, Anjali (Nayanthara) is appointed to nab him. Who is Rudra? What is the reason behind these mass Kidnaps? How did Anjali nab this Smart Criminal? forms the rest of the story.

Star Shine:

The film flaunts some very good performances. Bollywood Director Anurag Kashyap who plays the Psycho Killer is too good. The tyranny he displayed in the role of a Psycho ensured that the audience are involved in the story. Nayanthara is excellent as a sharp and Sincere CBI Officer. Her Performance, particularly in the Flashback, is praiseworthy. Atharva Murali gets an important role and she is good. Rashi Khanna is decent in a limited role. But the love track between Rashi and Atharva is unnecessary. Vijay Sethupathi is good in a cameo.

Director Ajay should be commended for the way he handled the film. It is like any other crime thriller but the difference is the way how the proceedings are narrated at a Brisk Pace. He also made sure that the twists are revealed at the right time keeping the audience interested till the end. Hiphop Tamizha have disappointed with the songs and the Background Score is also not up to the mark. RD Rajasekaran’s lens aptly captured the mood of the thriller. Editing could have been better in the Second half. Production Values are appropriate.

The first half of the film is racy and has enough thrills. Even though there are a couple of good twists in the Second half, it gives a lengthy feeling. Absence of the usual commercial elements further makes the audience restless. Nevertheless, Anjali CBI is largely honest to the genre and will appeal to the people who like such serious thrillers. Others can skip it.
