Tollywood is blessed with many stalwarts and Kongara Jaggayya was one among them. Born at Morampudi village, near Tenali, Guntur District of AP, Jaggayya started acting at a tender age of 11 and won many laurels as Lava in a Hindi play. During his studies at Andhra Christian College, Guntur, he along with legend NTR acted in many plays and was the best actor for three successive years. He made his tollywood debut with the film ‘Priyuralu’ under Tripuraneni Gopichand direction and though lost his way later struck back with vengeance with hits like “Ardhangi and Bangaru Papa”. For his powerful and extraordinary voice, he was known as Kanchu Kantam Jaggayya. His role as treacherous Rutherford in ‘Alluri Seetha Rama Raju’ won him many awards and he is still remembered for it. He has given his voice for more than 100 dubbing films and his voice for Nadigar Tilakam Sivaji Ganeshan for many films and even Hollywood great Richard Attenborough in Telugu version of Jurassic Park. He was honored with ‘Kalavachaspathi’by tollywood. He showcased his talent as painter and trained under Adivi Bapiraju. He even translated Rabindranath Tagore’s Geetanjali in Telugu as Ravindra Geetha. He won as MP for Congress from Ongole. He deserted all after his hip replacement surgery went wrong complications occurred post surgery on 5th March 2004.
