Movie: Lakshmi’s NTR
Director: Ram Gopal Varma
Behind the Scenes:
Ram Gopal Varma’s Controversial Film, Lakshmi’s NTR has released everywhere across the globe except for in Andhra Pradesh. The movie which is alleged to be a Propaganda film to damage TDP in the elections has become the most-talked about film of Ram Gopal Varma in recent years. Let us see how Lakshmi’s NTR is received by the audience:
Lakshmi Parvathi enters NTR’s (Vijay Kumar) life to write his Biography after 1989 Elections Defeat and becomes closer to him. Chandrababu Naidu (Sri Tej) uses this to change the minds of the family and the party and finally grabs the CM seat from NTR after 1994 Victory. The coup leads to the demise of NTR.
Some Drama Artist Vijay Kumar played the role of NTR. He looked like NTR in some shots but not in many places. His forced dialogues and melodrama also did not serve the purpose. Yagna Shetty is good as Lakshmi Parvathi. Sri Tej who played the role of Chandrababu Naidu did very well. The rest of the characters are unknown persons and are mostly in the range of Junior Artists.
There is a clear motive of Political Propaganda in the film but we try not to judge that and see it only as a film. Ram Gopal Varma made use of the political conditions and did the film suiting to that. He is clearly in favour of Lakshmi Parvathi and wants revenge on Chandrababu Naidu and Balayya. The Second Half of the film has a few good scenes here and there. The output would have been much better if Ramu ensured that there are no boring sequences and over the top sentiments. Kalyani Malik’s songs were disappointing but the background score is effective. The cinematography is pretty ordinary and the editing is poor. The Production Values are on par with some badly made Short films.
As we said earlier, we do not judge if the film is right or wrong but Ram Gopal Varma largely succeeded in portraying the story which he believed. The film is a let down with over the top sentiment and emotion but the second half makes up for it. There are few interesting scenes here and there even though the film suffers pace issues. The movie is a one-time watch if we do not think about political bias. TDP anti-fans will love it.
