NOTA Movie Review

Movie: NOTA

Rating: 2.5/5.0

Behind the Screens:

Vijay Deverakonda is on a rage with back to back successes and he is the darling of Youth right now. He is now coming up with the first Bilingual film of his career – NOTA, a Political Thriller which has also created a lot of controversies ahead of elections in Telangana. Let us see how the audience receives the movie releasing Today.

Storyline:

Varun (Vijay Deverakonda) is a happy-go-lucky guy and is the son of Chief Minister Vasudev (Nasser). Due to one warning by a Swamiji and a pending case, Vasudev steps down and makes Varun the Chief Minister who is a political novice. What was initially called as a Temporary arrangement, Varun becomes full-time CM. Rest of the story is all about the challenges Varun faces? How he overcomes that? What he works after becoming the Chief Minister.
.
Star Shine:

It is always challenging for a newcomer to do a Political film very early in his career. But Vijay Deverakonda dared that and walked through the role effortlessly. Mehreen is more like a cameo in the film and there is nothing to take about her performance. Sathyaraj plays a crucial role and has performed well. Nasser is good as well but his makeup in the second half is absurd. Sanchana Natarajan is good as the Opposition Leader, MS Bhaskar as Nasser’s supporter is okay.

Technical:

The movie is technically sound. Anand Shankar gets a big opportunity to direct a happening star like Vijay Deverakonda despite his not so illustrious career. But he failed to make use of it. He is good only in the first half. Santhana Krishnan’s camera work is good. The songs composed by Sam CS are okay while the Background score is the major highlight of the film. Editing by Raymond Derrick Crasta could have been better. The Production Values of the film are good.

Analysis:

Vijay is introduced as a Playboy in the film and later the director begins the real story very soon. The first half is okay with the Press Meet scene is the major highlight. But then, the director loses track in the second half. The story loses pace at places. There are no major thrills in the film which highlight the hero character in such films. The story has more Tamil Political connect than Telugu politics which is another disappointment. Having a Telugu writer to make some changes at least for the Telugu Version should have done the trick The climax is also disappointing as it gives an abrupt ending feel. Finally, NOTA at best becomes a Below Average fare disappointing Vijay’s fans.
