Movie: NTR Kathanayakudu

Rating: 3.0/5.0

Director: Krish

Behind the Scenes:
Nandamuri Balakrishna has made the Biopic of his Legendary Father, NT Ramarao. The movie was made in two parts – NTR Kathanayakudu and NTR Mahanayakudu in the direction of Krish. The First Part of the film releases today amid huge hype and expectations. Let us see how NTR Kathanayakudu is received by the audience:Storyline:

NTR Kathanayakudu explores the unknown angle of NTR’s family and his wife Basavatarakam. The story runs from her perspective. As she is being treated for Cancer, she goes through the family album reminding the celebrated life of NTR. How NTR came into films? Coming from a normal farmer family, How he became a Superstar? The film ends with NTR announcing Telugu Desam Party.
Star Shine:

Balakrishna played various getups of NTR’s film career as well as life. He struggled a bit to play the Young NTR to perfection due to age problem but he is exemplary in the Aged Getup and few getups like Sri Krishna, Balaji etc. Vidya Balan is an asset to the film. Since the story is narrated through her, selecting her is a masterstroke. After both of them, Sumanth performs very well. He looked close to the Legend in many scenes. Rana as Chandrababu is limited to a cameo. Popular actors have appeared in little roles enhancing the effect of those characters.

NTR Kathanayakudu is Technically Strong and the major credit should go to Krish. He ensured that there is everything in the movie which fans expect. He also tried to embed some unknown things about NTR’s life. MM Keeravani’s songs are good and the background score is exemplary. Gnanasekhar’s camera work is excellent. Sai Madhav Burra’s dialogues are the biggest assets of the film. The editor could have concentrated on decreasing the lag of the film. Production Values of the film are excellent.

Making the Biopic of NTR is not easy because every character in NTR’s Life are legends themselves. So casting becomes very difficult. Krish pulled it off and enhanced the effect of every character by taking popular artists even for small roles. One more challenge is that NTR’s life is an Open Book. It is very difficult to narrate it interestingly. Narrating the film from Basavatarakam angle is that novel factor for the film. The team did excellent research on NTR and ensured they capture every turn in his life. The first half of the film has been decent with Sri Krishna episode being extraordinary. Probably, the team tried too many things there with so many films and iconic characters. Fans may relate to this role but the normal audience may find it difficult. Coming to the Second half, there are some sequences which give emotional high starting from Diviseema episode. The second half is better than the first with a good climax. NTR Kathanayakudu is a treat for fans while it will be a decent one-time watch for the normal audience. The Biggest Problem with NTR Kathanayakudu is the film mostly runs on a high. For a film to connect emotionally there should be highs and lows as well to take the audience through the journey. For fans, the nostalgia of watching NTR’s life is more than enough but for normal audience it will not suffice. It has to be seen how the normal audience receives it and on their Word of Mouth depends the film Box Office Result.
