Despite releasing amidst intense protests and being banned in four Indian states, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Padmaavat has emerged as a huge blockbuster at the Box Office. The movie is already a 200 Crore Grosser at the Indian Box Office and is a shy away from the 250 Crore Club. The movie has now breached the rare $10 million milestone in North America.
Until its 17-day run, Padmaavat has grossed $10,254,754 and stood fourth in the list of all-time highest grossing Indian movies in the US. The film will overtake Aamir Khan’s PK ($10.58M) by Sunday to occupy the 3rd spot. Aamir Khan’s Dangal ($12.37M) and Baahubali The Conclusion ($21.3M) are the only movies ahead of Padmaavat.
The film’s leading stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor performance and the captivating visuals of the epic story make to grab record collections. The controversy has also helped the movie at the box office. Padmaavat is all about the story of Alauddin Khilji who desired a Rajput queen Rani Padmavati. Padmavati was the queen of Chittor and she is believed to have killed herself rather than letting Khilji capture her. Padmaavat is the first Indian film which had a global IMAX 3D release.
