Rating:     2.75/5

Director:  Puri Jagannadh

Behind the Screens

Since the day Paisa Vasool is announced, there is so much of curiosity about the project as Balayya and Puri Jagannadh are two contrasting film personalities. The promotional material released so far are exciting until now. Let us see how the movie releasing today fares with the audience.

Theda Singh (Balakrishna) is just from Tihar Jail who is brave and ruthless. He is deployed to Portugal by a Senior RAW Officer (Kabir Bedi) to nab Bab Marley (Vikramjeet Virk), a mafia don who creates trouble for India sitting there. Rest of the story is if Theda Singh is successful in the mission and how.

Star Shine:

Balayya is seen in a new avatar as Theda Singh. His styling, Body language, and dialogue delivery have all undergone a big chance in Puri Jagannadh’s Style. The Interval Bang dialogue and few other dialogues are impressive. But if you are expecting Balayya’s usual style of dialogues, you will be disappointed. The actor is seen as a live wire through out the film which is a delight for fans. There are three heroines and Shriya gets the Prime role. Muskaan Sethi is only confined to a song and few scenes. Kyra Dutt is seen in the item song and is a crucial role. The chemistry between Balayya and Shriya worked out. Ali appears in a little role. Kabir Bedi came up with an impressive performance. Vikramjeet Virk is as usual.

Puri Jagannadh is successful in redesigning Balayya’s Character. We get to see a new Balayya. For some reason, Puri’s pen power worked only in parts. Portugal Action Sequence is impressive. The story, however, is routine Mafia story used by Puri in several films and the screenplay also runs on predictable lines. The first half is good but the second half derails midway with too much of lag. The only novel factor is Balayya’s makeover. Paisa Vasool will be enjoyable for fans but may not appeal as such to the common audience. Its range will depend on how fans and masses receive it.

Puri Jagannadh as always got a mixed result with the film. He succeeded in giving a good characterization to the hero role but failed to handle the story and screenplay well. Even the dialogues do not work totally. Songs composed by Anoop Rubens are good. Balayya’s song will excite the fans. Camera work by Mukesh G is good while the editing by Junaid is sharp. Production Values can be better.
