Pithapuram Nageswara Rao was one of the great tollywood legendary playback singers. Patharlagadda Nageswara Rao was born in Pithapuram of East Godavari district, on 5th May 1930. His association with Madhavapeddi Satyam and others resulted in hilarious songs leaving all forget their hardships. Born to Viswanadham and Appayamma, he was popular as Pithapuram Nageswara Rao though his surname is Patharlagadda. From the childhood he developed great interest in acting from his father who was a good drama artist. He went to Madras to try his luck in films and made his debut in 1946 at the age of 16 with ‘Mangala Sutram’. He later sang in Chandralekha (1948) of Gemini Studios. Some of his popular numbers which are even remembered now include Ayyayyo Jebulo Dabbulu Poyene (Kula Gothralu, 1962), Maa Oollo Oka Paduchundi (Ave Kallu, 1967) He lastly sang in Bommarillu (1978) as Challani Ramayya Chakkani Seetamma.He passed away on March 5th 1996.
