Sitar Maestro Pandit Ravi Shanker will receive a posthumous lifetime achievement Grammy award. Ravi Shankar who died on Tuesday is among seven artists for the Grammy award, he was recipient of three time Grammy winner. Ravi Shanker was selected before his death and notified last week that he was receiving the honour. According to Grammy’s spokeswoman Stephanie Schell said Shanker is one of the world’s most renowned sitar players and a true ambassador for international music. He is a performer, composer, teacher and writer and he is considered a pioneer in bringing Indian music to the west. She added. He taught his close friend George Harrison to play the instrument and collaborated with him on several projects which includes ground breaking concert for Bangladesh in 1971. He called shanker as ‘The godfather of world music’. His daughter Anoushka Shanker also nominated in the same category for her Deutsche Grammophon. The awards will be given at 55th annual Grammy awards which will be held in Los Angeles on February 10th 2013.
