Movie: Peta

Rating: 2.25/5.0

Director: Karthik Subbaraj

Behind the Scenes:
Peta may be the film of Superstar Rajinikanth with least hype in the recent times. The movie is releasing in Sankranthi Season amid huge competition from the Local Biggies. That also gave rise to a controversy with the Producer of Telugu Version making foul comments on Theaters Mafia. Amid all this, Peta releases today. Let us see how Peta is received by the audience:

Kaali (Rajinikanth) joins as A Warden in a College and use to solve various problems in his own style. He unites two Lovers and later locks horns with a local Goonda unexpectedly. During that, it is revealed that his name is not Kaali but is Peta and he is from Uttar Pradesh. In the Flashback, he is into a tussle with a Big Politician, Simhachalam (Nawazuddin Siddique). What is the story? Why did he come from Uttar Pradesh? Why Peta became Kaali? is the rest of the story.
Star Shine:
Rajinikanth is in his elements after a long time in Peta. We get to see his style, Mannerisms, Charishm in the film especially in the First Half of the movie. It is a treat for fans to see him in full form after a long time. Nawazzudin Siddique and Vijay Sethupathi are totally underused in the film. Trisha and Simran were in the film for the sake of just having the heroines.

Karthik Subbaraj has picked up a disappointing story for the film. Even though he fully made use of Rajinikanth’s Core Strengths in the first half and the good things about him ends there. The Revenge Drama needed a strong flashback which he failed to deliver. Anirudh’s songs are okay and the background score is very good. Thiru’s camera work is good as well. Some of the dialogues are interesting. Editing could have been better. Lengthy Runtime is a big problem. Production Values are Good.

The First Half of the film is totally focused on unearthing the Vintage Rajinikanth of Narasimha and Muttu times. Fights are also stylish. Simran Track is also a treat to Rajinikanth fans. But the story does not move an inch in the First Half. Except for fans, there is nothing for the normal audience. Second Half is all about why Peta turned into Kaali. It is a Revenge Drama which needed a Strong Flashback to drive the point home. But here flashback is a big disappointment. A better second half would have helped the film a bit but it is totally disappointing. The film may work in Tamil but in Telugu, it is gonna be disappointing at the Box Office.
