Raju Gadu Movie Review

Movie: Raju Gadu

Rating: 2.5/5

Writing and Direction: Sanjana Reddy

Behind the Screens:

Young Hero Raj Tharun has no proper hit after Eedo Rakam Aado Rakam in 2016. He delivered three back to back failures with his last three films. He is all set to try his luck with his new film, Raju Gadu. Let us see how the movie releasing today fares with the audience.

Storyline:

Raju (Raj Tharun) is Kleptomanic who tries to steal without his knowledge. His problem only aggravates with his age and later he falls in love with Thanvi (Amyra Dastur). He ensures that his problem is hidden. But when both the families agree for their marriage, Raju had to live with Thanvi’s Grandfather (Nagineedu) who hates robber. He cuts the hands of robbers in his village. The rest is all about how Raju tries to hide his problem and how he manages to win Thanvi’s hand.

Star Shine:

Raj Tharun is known for his gushing energy but for some reason, the energy is missing in this film and that makes the proceedings dull. Amyra Dastur gets an insignificant role. The chemistry between them did not work out. Rajendra Prasad is impressive as Hero’s father. Nagineedu, Rao Ramesh, Sitara, and Praveen are good.

Technical:

The debut director Sanjana Reddy has chosen a good concept but the story weaved around it is not impressive. Gopi Sundar’s songs are good. The camera work by B Rajasekhar is Good and Editing by Lakshman could have been better. The Production Values are okay.

Analysis:

Raju Gadu is heavily inspired by the success of films like Bhale Bhale Magadivoy and Mahanubhavudu. Usually, such films have scope to work out comedy but director Sanjana has failed miserably. The story is introduced well with the right tinge of comedy but the steam could not be maintained. She even failed to make use of Raj Tharun’s energy. There are no strong scenes and proper comedy which made audience struggle to sit. The second half further has serious pace issues and logic also goes for a toss. The director tried to infuse some comedy in the climax and even that did not work.
