Jaanu Movie Review

Movie : Jaanu

Rating : 2.75/5

Director : C. Prem Kumar

Behind the Scenes:

Sharwanand and Samantha have teamed up to remake Tamil Superhit, 96 in the name of Jaanu. Dil Raju was approached to release the dubbed version in Telugu but he was so impressed with it and decided to Remake in Telugu. Let us see how the movie releasing today will connect to the audience.

Story:

Ramachandra (Sharwanand) and Janaki Devi (Samantha) are classmates in the school and they fall in love. But situations force them to separate and they get to meet only after 17 years in a School Get together. By then, Jaanu is married and a mother but Ram is still unmarried. Rest of the story is all about how they spend their time for the next few hours.

Performances:

Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha made a lasting impression in 96 with their performances. Sharwanand and Samantha managed to fit in their shoes. Both of them have performed really well in the roles portraying pain and momentary happiness. Strenuous workouts seems to be taking toll on Samantha, her face appeared very lean. Vennela kishore and Thagubothu Ramesh have appeared in little roles and they are fine. The girl who was seen as Samantha in Childhood performed well.

Technical Performances:

C Prem Kumar who directed 96 was retained for this remake as well. It is often difficult to recreate the magic of a classic. Prem is only partially success even with good cast and Production support. The School Episodes have come out well but as a whole, the movie suffers pace issues especially in the Second Half. Govinda Vasantha’s songs were situational and shot well. The Background score is excellent elevating the proceedings. The visuals are good and the Production Values are okay.

Analysis:

The first half of the film is decent even though there are some pace issues. Audience will connect to the school love story and things take a dip in the second half as the pace issues become serious. A few scenes are heartwarming but many feels like repetitive. Finally, Jaanu does not match the feel of 96 but is good in parts making it a okay watch. Youth audience who like love stories will like it but it may be tough for the remaining audience to sit through such slow proceedings.

Movie Marks:

Jaanu: Okay Jaanu
