SIFI to stage hunger strike

The South Indian Film Industry will hold hunger strike on January 7th (Monday) in protest against the Central Government’s service tax on the film Industry. Speaking to reporters at Anna Salai, Film Chamber office, actor Sarath Kumar said that the government has imposed 12.5 per cent service tax on various crafts which would affect the film and television industry. This would be implemented from last year July onwards. On Monday the entire film industry including actors, actress, technicians, directors, producers, television employees and others would stage hunger strike from 8 am to 5 pm at Chennai Gemini flyover.  He also said super star Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan will also participate in the strike. On that day no shootings will take place and all the theaters will be closed. On January 10th there would be meeting the Central Minister to submit a memorandum.  Producers council president S.A.Chandrashekar, Kalaipuli S.Dhanu, Abirami Ramnadhan, K.S.Srinivasan,  Panneerselvam and others also participated in the conference.
