Chennai: Tamil Star Hero Suriya recently completed the shooting part of his next project, Soorarai Pottru. Earlier, there were reports that the makers are planning to release the movie for Christmas, but the latest buzz in Chennai Media Circles suggests that they are looking at Sankranthi Release for the film. This seems to be a wrong decision because it will clash with Superstar Rajinikanth’s Darbar in Tamil and in Telugu, it will barely have a decent release due to intense competition at the Sankranthi Box Office. The movie may better opt for the Republic Day weekend release for better release in Kollywood as well as the Tollywood.
Soorarai Pottru is based on Air Deccan Captain Gopinath, who revolutionized the aviation industry. Suriya’s production house 2D Entertainment is producing the movie in association with Oscar-winning Bollywood producer Guneet Monga. The film is being directed by Sudha Kongara, who wielded the Megaphone for Guru starring Victory Venkatesh. She directed the Original, Irudhi Suttru, in Tamil. On the other side, Suriya’s recent release, Bandobast, has ended up as a big disaster at the Telugu Box Office. The movie could not even the expenses involved in its release here. Suriya did not have a hit in several years, and his market is eroding with every flop. Its high time he pulls off a hit at any cost or should consider releasing his film on his own, which means a huge risk. It has to be seen what is in store for him with this film.
