Movie: Thugs of Hindostan

Rating: 2.5/5.0

Writing and Direction: Vijay Krishna Acharya

Behind the Scenes:
Bollywood Superstars – Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan are sharing the screen for the first time in Thugs of Hindostan. Aamir Khan has become the synonym of success in recent times but then for many reasons, Thugs of Hindostan did not carry much hype which is normally expected from an Aamir Khan starrer. Let us see how Thugs of Hindostan is received by the audience:
Thugs of Hindostan is a Period saga about a band of rebels called Thugs who revolt against the British after the refuse to be enslaved by a foreign power. Khudabaksh Jahaazi, a patriot marshalls the Thugs against a tyrannical British officer named Clive (Lloyd Owen). Aamir Khan plays a clever Thug while Fatima Sana Sheik plays another thug who is a Master in Archery. The rest of the story is what they do to drive the Britishers away.
Star Shine:
Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan are the show-stealers of the film as always. The song in which they danced together will be memorable for a long time. Aamir Khan’s dialogues in Buttler English are laughter inducing. Katrina Kaif mesmerizes the audience with her beauty once again. Her dances are just stupendous. Fatima Sana Sheikh is super impressive in the action sequences. This is one memorable character for her after Dangal. Rest of the characters are okay.
Director Vijay Krishna Acharya wrote the story on a novel of 1839 ‘Confessions of A Thug’. The director who is also the writer of the film missed the basics of story-telling and is focused only on making the film as grand as possible. The music by Ajay-Atul does not add to the narrative. Sets and the CG work are impressive. Manush Nandan’s cinematography is excellent. The Production Values of Yash Raj Films are rich.
Thugs of Hindostan is basically touted to be the Indian version of the Pirates of the Caribbean.  But then, Vijay Krishna Acharya narrated it quite predictably. The audience can guess every development from the start to the end. And also, there is not even a single surprise or twist. Some of the scenes are too prolonged, overdramatic, and logic-less as well. A bit less than three hours, the movie takes a toll on the audience. Thogs of Hindostan is finally all show with no substance.
