Director: Sundar C
Pakka Commercial director Sundar C teams up with Vishal once again after 2015 hit Maga Maharaja for an action thriller titled ‘Action’. Tamannaah, Akanksha Puri and Aishwarya Lekshmi have been paired opposite Vishal. The film promises breathtaking action, full-on glamor feast and non-stop thrills. Let us see if the film satisfies the expectations of the audience.
Subhash is an Army Colonel who is also the son of CM. Due to some high-end conspiracy, one of the most-respected ministers and PM candidate Guptaji gets assassinated and the blame falls on Subhash’s Brother (Ramki). In mysterious circumstances, he commits suicide. Now it is upon Subhash to nab the real culprit Ibrahim Malik (Kabir Singh Duhan) and save the nation from getting doomed. In his mission, Tamannaaah, Yogi Babu give him support.
The role doesn’t need great histrionics and Vishal does the mandatory acting well. He is good in action scenes as usual. Tamannah looks like a million bucks and is picture-perfect in every scene. Akanksha Puri as Kaira, the assassin gets a meaty role in the first half and she delivers a stunning performance. She is absolutely sizzling in her intro song where she dazzles in a bikini. Yogi Babu tries to generate some comedy as a hacker. Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ramki, Chaya Singh, Kabir Singh Duhan, Sayaji Shinde, Praveen Dabbas and others are okay in whatever roles they are given.
The film has great production values and has been shot very lavishly. The locations are superb and so is the cinematography. The film is shot in various countries including Azerbaijan and Turkey, which is a visual treat to the audience. The film offers some great action scenes especially the pre-interval chase but the film suffers at many places due to poor CGI and VFX which dampens the effect of good action stunts. The music by Hip-hop Thamizh is good and the songs have been picturized amazingly. The visuals overshadow the music though. The BGM works well in few scenes and creates a thrilling effect. The second half is lengthy but the film offers some thrills so the viewer doesn’t mind the length.
The film starts off well with a brilliantly choreographed action scene where Vishal rescues Tamannaah but after that, the pace of the film dips. The film picks up after the entry of Akanksha Puri and maintains momentum till interval. The second half is slightly better than the first half with good thrilling scenes like the bank hacking scene and the climax has been done well. The film reminds us of many Bollywood blockbusters like Ek Tha Tiger, Baby, and Phantom in terms of story and screenplay. Sundar C has done a decent job of handling an action-packed subject. The film isn’t logical and many scenes are quite childish but since the viewer doesn’t get bored, the flaws can be overlooked. The film might not appeal to families but the youth won’t mind watching this action fare. Action is an okay cliched thriller and can be a one-time watch if you are a fan of action films with some scintillating glamor feast from the gorgeous leading ladies.
