Movie: Viswasam

Rating: 2.5/5.0

Director: Siva

Behind the Scenes:

Viswasam which released in Tamil Nadu for Sankranthi went on to become a massive blockbuster there. The movie is now dubbed into Telugu and got released today. It has managed to get a very good release in both the Telugu States. Let us see how Viswasam is received by the audience:

Veerraju (Ajith) is a revered village head in Ravulapalem. His wife (Nayanthara) deserts him and goes to Mumbai. He becomes dejected and his relatives force him to go to Mumbai in search of her. Once in Mumbai, Veerraju comes to know that his daughter has a threat looming large. The rest of the story is all about what has happened behind the scenes? and if the couple will unite at the end.
Star Shine:

Ajith is a perfect fit for the character of Veerraju. He excelled in emotions as well as a doting father. His composed performance is a treat to fans. Nayanthara is elegance personified as always. The chemistry between them is good and she pulled off the character with ease. Jagapathi Babu is excellent as the baddie. Rest of the characters are fine.

Director Siva is like a personal director of Ajith and he did an average job with this film but the real strength of the film lies in utilizing Ajith’s popularity and mass appeal. A bit of drama and emotions could have done a whole lot of good for the film’s second half but the director missed it. Songs by D Imman are not up to the mark but the background score is massy. The cinematography is well-handled particularly the countryside scenes. Editing could have been better in the second half. Several unnecessary scenes crept in. Production Values are grand.

Viswasam is a routine family drama which is also not handled well in the Second Half. But then, the biggest asset of the film is Ajith’s Mass Appeal and stardom which the director used it perfectly. So, the movie worked big time in Tamil, especially with fans. Coming to Telugu audience, it is definitely not A Center film and further, only a section of B and C center audience may like it. If you are not in that section, skip it.
