Director: Mahi V Raghav
Behind the Scenes:
Political Biopics have become the flavor of the season. After NTR Kathanayakudu, we have Yatra which is about Late YS Rajasekhara Reddy (Former Chief Minister of Erstwhile Andhra Pradesh). It is being directed by Successful Director, Mahi V Raghav. Let us see how Yatra is received by the audience:
Yatra played by Mammootty is not a Biopic of YSR but is more about the Padayatra which he undertook before 2004 Elections. The changes the Padayatra brought in him and State Politics is the film about. The film also explains the backdrop of various popular welfare schemes implemented by him after coming to Power.
The movie predominantly about YSR and so it is all Mammootty who played the titular role. The Senior Actor excelled the role and resembled YSR at many places. Ashritha is a good fit as Vijayamma. Rao Ramesh is super as KVP Ramachandra Rao. Anasuya, Suhasini, Posani Krishna Murali appeared in the little role and they are fine.
Director Mahi V Raghav already told us he picked up some real-life incidents and some fictitious incidents for this film story. It served the purpose of establishing YSR’s character and also the cinematic purpose. Mahi ensured that the emotional quotient needed to drive the point home does not miss. Dialogues are excellent. Music by K is decent while the Background score is Superb. Editing is okay even though the normal audience finds it difficult to sit through for so long as the proceedings move on a single concept. Production Values are superb.
Yatra is definitely a Political Motive film which can be evident from the fact the makers took a jibe at TDP and also added few visuals saying that Jagan is imminent to carry YSR legacy. It should cater to the political needs of YSR Congress and will satisfy the fans who see YSR as a God. But the other classes of the audience will find it boring and devoid of commercial aspects. They will find it difficult to sit through as if they are watching a documentary.
