Veteran musician and playback singer K.J.Yesudas has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s ‘P. Susheela National Award’, which was announced by the Melody Queen at a media gathering recently. Susheela’s daughter-in-law and singer Sandhya was also present at the event.
A legend in the music industry, P.Susheela has sung more than 40,000 songs in all Indian languages to her credit in a career spanning 57 years. The singer began a trust in her name few years ago and has been involved in several social activities.
S. Janaki and S.P. Balasubramaniam were the recipients of P. Susheela Award for Excellence in the previous years. This year, K.J. Yesudas will be honored at a glittering musical show ‘Sigarangalin Sangamam’ on November 14 at Nehru Stadium in the city.
Veterans T.M. Sounderarajan and P.B. Sreenivas will also be honored with Life Time achievement awards on the occasion. Icons from the music industry including Dr. Balamuralikrishna, Vani Jayaram, Jayachandran, Hariharan, etc. will be coming together for the first time on the same stage for a performance. ‘Sadhaga Paravaigal’ will also provide the orchestra for the event.
